Caldera of the Kerið Volcano in Iceland with the surface area of the water frozen. A caldera is a cauldron-like volcanic feature usually formed by the collapse of land following a volcanic eruption. The Kerið caldera is composed of red volcanic rock and is approximately 55 m(180 ft) deep, 170 m(560 ft) wide, and 270 m(890 ft) across.
